Backing up your computers
Data Backup is one of the most important and most neglected areas of computer maintenance. Yet reliable backups can be automated and require very little attention.

Data loss can happen in many ways. Sooner or later hard drives fail. Everyone makes mistakes and soon or later something gets deleted. Documents are changed, saved and the original document gets erased but is needed days later. Viruses delete files. (Virus protection should also be at the top of your list.)

Another important thing to do is to verify your backups. Quite often, people diligently follow backup procedures but fail to check to see if data can actually be restored from the backup media. In one situation, backup tapes were stored in a metal cabinet. One day some files needed to be restored but all of the tapes were blank. A magnet placed on the outside of the cabinet had erased the data. In another situation when a restore was need, an operator discovered the tapes that had been swapped each day were all blank. The tapes were changed daily but the backup software was not working.

Computer Repair Associates can help you identify your risk, configure a backup solution that meets your needs and make sure you are back to business in the shortest amount of time possible.
